Organics & Composting

  • • Fruits & vegetables, including pits, peels & shells, melon rinds and corn husks and cobs (Please remove sticker)

    • Seafood, including shellfish, seaweed, nori and kelp

    • Meat & bones

    • Solid fats & grease (no liquids)

    • Rice, beans, grains & pasta

    • Bread

    • Dairy and Soy products, including cheese, tofu and tempeh

    • Eggs and eggshells

    • Coffee grounds & loose tea

    • Breakfast cereal and oatmeal

    • Chips, crackers, nut shells, popcorn and kernels

    • All prepared, cooked & spoiled foods

    • Wooden chopsticks, toothpicks, and kabob skewers

    • Pet food

    • Certified compostable bags (ASTM D6400/ BPI)

    • Certified compostable plastics which may include utensils, plates, cups, etc. (ASTM D6400/ BPI)

    • Holiday trees (All tinsel, stands and ornaments removed. Flocked trees not accepted)

    • Fruit and vegetable waste from garden (pumpkins, tomato plants, fruit droppings, etc.)

    • Palm, yucca and cactus (no palm tree trunks)

    • Wooden crates, sawdust, & other clean wood items under 36″

    • Manure & animal bedding from chickens, rabbits, horses, etc.

  • • Commercial food waste in compostable or clear plastic bags

    • Packaged food (may not be packaged in glass containers)

    • Liquid food waste (FOG, winery, etc.)

    • May not include yard waste, wood, trash, hazardous waste

    • May not include chopsticks, bamboo skewers/utensils (these items may be placed in the yard waste container)

  • • Plastic bags / wrap or straws

    • Hazardous Waste – Items such as paint, caulking, spray adhesive cylinders, batteries, light bulbs, etc. cannot be accepted in C&D loads. Please contact Yolo County’s Hazardous Waste Team at (530) 666-8856 to schedule an appointment for proper disposal (fees apply). Please note that it is a violation of both local and state law to dispose of these items in your waste dumpsters.

  • We recycle carpet in partnership with Yolo County and the California Carpet Stewardship Program. Click here for more information.

    Please note: Area rugs are not covered under the CARE Program and therefore are not accepted.

  • Treated Wood Waste (TWW) cannot be commingled with C&D. Accepted as a source separated material for an additional fee.

Northern Recycling does not accept any types of Household Hazardous Waste. Please see the below list for items that fall under household hazardous waste that are not accepted by Northern Recycling.
